Mark Isham's score for Point Break was fantastic and a huge part of the movie. So of course when a soundtrack album was released with the film, none of Isham's music was included.

But it's still good! The Point Break soundtrack album as opposed to the original score, is the 921st Soundtrack of the Week.

This is a collection of songs that are played in the movie, sometimes as source music and sometimes not. The first track, for example, rock anthem "Nobody Rides for Free" by Ratt, is heard over the end credits. Which also of course makes it the perfect choice for the first song...

"Over the Edge" by L.A. Guns is a huge-sounding song whose lyics definitely fit the story. Wire Train's pop-punky "I Will Not Fall" is perfectly suited for the surf-learning training montage.

Next is "I Want You" by Concrete Blonde, a great love song that I'm pretty sure underscores the development of the Johnny-Tyler romance.

Then there's a blast of jackhammer drums and power chords for "7 and 7 Is" by Liquid Jesus, which unexpectedly shifts through neo-surf rock before downshifting into a kind of jazz/lounge gear.

Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" gets a sort of techno-pop update, followed by Shark City's hard-rock anthem "My City".

"Criminal" by Public Image Ltd. changes the feel entirely by keeping some of the rock elements but steering the music into a sparer, jagged, not funky but not exactly not not funky either place..

I don't really remember that song or the next one, "So Long Cowboy" by Westworld. Time to watch the movie again!

The last song on the record Sheryl Crow's "Hundreds of Tears", which has an appropriate dramatic and emotional feel to it.
