Cliff Twemlow's The Tuxedo Warrior is mostly the story of his life as a professional bouncer, including the road that took him there.

He's also well known as a one-man film industry, turning Manchester into his own Hollywood, shooting low budget movies on video. These movies and a documentary about Twemlow are also here at Gutbrain Headquarters, and I'm hoping to get to them soon.

The Tuxedo Warrior is kind of like a cross between Rocky and Road House. Twemlow is an unpretentious and easygoing guy who's good at fighting and works hard at staying in good physical condition.

He leaves home and finds his vocation as a wrangler of the drunk and rowdy at various nightclubs. They come in all sorts and sizes, both men and women, and sometimes Twemlow gets seriously injured.

Twemlow's writing style is low key, modest and conversational. This reader had the impression of having a wonderful time sitting comfortably in a pub and listening to him talk.

The first line is "I was born on October 16th, 1936, at Number 14 Lord Street, Hulme, Manchester, the final addition to a family of six, brothers John and William, and a sister, Ethel, named after my mother, and myself, Cliff".
