Happy birthday!

Don Julian's "super soul soundtrack" for Savage! is the 845th Soundtrack of the Week!

As you can see, we got the infinity splatter web exclusive vinyl release from Real Gone Music. The Gutbrain archivist is very particular about these things.

I'd like to compare this record to the movie. The "Title Theme: Savage" is eleven and a half minutes long. Is that what happens on screen? Maybe! Anyway, it's a great funk/soul number with wah-wah guitar and lots of flute playing.

Then comes "Lay It on Your Head", which is very similar but a tiny bit slower and with a slightly different feel. There's a middle section that's very spacious and features the electric bass guitar.

This is followed by "Where I'm Coming From", which has more flute with lots of overblowing and some middle eastern modalities, subtly accompanied by rhythm guitar and bass. It ends with a return to the title theme feel.

Side One concludes with "It's a Sad Song", which has acoustic guitar strumming minor chords for a a little over a minute.

Flip the record and you hear "My Favorite Beer Joint", a kind of perky blues with sax and organ.

"Janitzio" starts with a spoken introduction explaining the title as a town in Mexico and ruminating on music and art and people from different cultures connecting to each other. Then there's what sounds like people cheering a bull fight and after that a nice laidback groove with electric guitar playing gently and some hand percussion enhancing the rhythm section.

It ends with "Just Kiss Me", a silly-happy gently swinging sunny sort of tune.
